July 1st, 1971, the government decided 18-year-olds deserved the right to vote, and when that right was granted, most states lowered their drinking ages as well.

​Like most college towns, Burlington saw a rapid increase in bars catering to the new patrons. Many of these bars still exist, like Rasputin’s and Nectar’s, But many more are gone. My favorite was a bar called the last Chance Saloon. Located in the basement where the Flynn space is, the Chance has many memories for many a UVM and St. Mikes student: and a few forgotten ones.
